The media franchise I chose to write on is the TV show, “The Simpsons”. I chose this show because it is one of the most popular TV shows in the world. It has been translated into many different languages and broadcast all around the world. It started as a series of short clips on a late night show in the U.S. and has been growing in popularity ever since. It has not been attached to just one network, so therefore is widely syndicated. Even though if you want the new episodes the television behemoth FOX has bought rights to them.
It is broadcast in many countries and known even under other names. Just due to the fact that the last name Simpson isn’t used in some countries. It started back in the early 80’s and is the longest running animated series in television history. So that means audiences all around the world have got to enjoy over 200 episodes.
The show no matter where it is doesn’t necessarily have a point to get across. Every episode has some sort of mini message or lesson the characters learn, and then again others are just to get laughs out of people. The show is popular in many countries, but probably most popular in the U.S., Mexico, and probably Germany. I think for every language it’s in the same messages is coming across, yet the last name is changed to fit the host nation.
I think that the show brings people together because if you think about it you have a connection with people from all over the world that watch the show. Someone else shares the same interest as you, and many others do to. It also gives people something to talk about when they meet up. When traveling to a different country with a different culture it can be hard to figure out what you have in common. With a TV show it gives you that topic you can all relate to. Now that the Simpsons if broadcasted all over the world it gives you a show that is fun and easy to relate to. Television shows have given the chance for people to see what people from a different country like to watch. Because it brings people together I think that it is really a blessing. Hopefully all the shows we watch now a day’s get the chance to expand all over the world, and bring people together.
